GPs prescribing Mounjaro
You may have read in the news that weight loss injections may be available through GP surgeries. Whilst this is true, the criteria to qualify is very strict.
Eligibility criteria
- BMI above 40. You can check your BMI here if you know your height and weight. We will check your height and weight at your appointment, so it must be accurate.
- Confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following health conditions:
– Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
– Sleep apnoea (confirmed at a sleep clinic)
– Type 2 diabetes
– Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, vascular disease or stroke)
– Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)
If you don’t meet all of these criteria, your GP will not be able to prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss under the current guidelines.
We are contacting patients eligible, please do not contact the practice in the meantime.
There are many other weight loss services available and we recommend booking an appointment with our Health Coach. You can also find further weight loss support on the Crawley Wellbeing website, who run a free Weight Off Workshop for people with a BMI between 25 and 40. They can also give you 12 months’ free access to the Gro Health app for people with a BMI of 25+.
